Hardanger and Embroidery in Saigon

Salaams and hello readers *smile*

I was in Saigon four days --  free and easy trip with my family and friends.  It is easy to go around this clean and beautiful city with minor problem of language *wink* despite the language barrier we still managed to reach our destination even though sometimes the taxi driver did not understand English language and we have to use a sign language ..hiks..  Muslim food is expensive in Saigon, since we are not familiar with the area and place to eat, we have to ask around and it is not a problem since there are many Malaysian in this city especially at Benh Tham day and night market.  Some of them came for business purposes and some of them just like us shopping and sight seeing.

I was so happy managed to find hardanger embroidery tablecloth in Saigon as I have been looking for this needlecraft.  Hardanger is not easy to do as it need accuracy, precise and patience and I believe it is a dying art.  If I were to do this, I dont know if I can even make a placemat *sigh*

Another needlecraft that I bought while I was in Saigon is table runner with bullion stitch and combination of hardanger embroidery, it was very fine and detailed works stitch on linen. Vietnam people is meticulous and creative in embroidery works :-)

Benh Thanh market at Ho Chi Minh city, where you can find  your needs here from artificial flower, groceries, perishable items, clothing, accessories, bags and you really need to have a good bargain skill here.  Do bargain for at least 50% from offer price.  Dollar and ringgit accepted here and my preference for buying transaction as the item priced a bit cheaper as compared if we use dong.

Motor bike is their main transportation in this city.

Dekat sini, boleh tempah baju and siap next day, baju kurung traditional, blouse atau kemeja yang simple2 sebab kalau nak beading sekali amik masa few days.  My advice, kalau nak tempah baju kat sini, sampai ajer kat Saigon, terus gi tempah baju dulu, so that next day tu dah boleh ambil dan ada masa kalau kita nak buat alteration.  Bawak baju sample lagi better, sebab kalau amik ukuran, kadang2 ada yang bahu terbesar, pinggang terkecik (my own experience ).

Pasar malam kat Benh Thanh, memang banyak pilihan baju kurung siap, telekung ( me prefer lagi telekung di Jakarta), jubah dan stok setiap hari berlainan. Jadi kalau nak buat bisness, kena stay few days juga kat sini melainkan kalau kita amik direct from the supplier and no need to go to Pasar Malam.

Malaysian memang ramai kat sini, dan ianya adalah satu pemandangan yang biasa :-).  Till next entry,  happy sewing and crafting :-)
